10th PRESIDENT’S CUP |
University of Batangas celebrated its most-awaited annual President’s Cup with so much zeal and vigor coming from the students and faculty of each competing college. The two-day affair formally opened last February 25 with a Holy Mass officiated by Fr. Johannes Arada, Parish Priest of the Mary Euphrasia Church. This year’s celebration had “Celebrating a Decade of Team Spirit with Untainted Brilliance” as theme. The events included competition in the following categories: academics, cultural and sports, or “Palarong Pinoy”. Atty. Jesus Victor Mayo (Over-all Chairman) challenged the eight participating colleges and wished them good luck during the Kick-off ceremony held at the Auditorium. Dr. Hernando Perez (University President) also graced the opening activities. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of camaraderie and sportsmanship amidst stiff competition.
One of the highlights of the cultural competition was the MR. and MS. UB 2010 held during the first day. The crowd applauded the 8 handsome gentlemen and gorgeous ladies representing the different colleges. The following were proclaimed winners in the pageant: Garreth Mojares (CTHM) crowned Mr. UB 2010 & Miss Jean Carandang (CNM) crowned Ms. UB 2010; Bryan Ramirez (CBA) & Liezel Aclan (CTHM) – 1st Runners-up; and Melvin Mendoza (Engineering) & Clarisse Macaraig (Education) – 2nd Runners-up. The second day of the celebration highlighted the first ever Street and Court Dance Competition, which earned credits for its festiveness and superb play of colors. On the other hand, the Palarong Pinoy elicited excitement from the crowd.
The Steering Committee chaired by Mr. Rogelio Talag and the other working committees convened for the announcement of this year’s winners immediately after all the events were completed. The following emerged as winners in the three categories: Academic Champion – College of Education; Cultural Champion – College of Business and Accountancy and “Palarong Pinoy” Champion – College of Business and Accountancy.
The committee extends its warmest congratulations to the colleges who worked equally hard and were determined to win. The overall winners deserve all the glory: College of Allied Medical Sciences (2nd Runner-up); College of Engineering (1ST Runner-up); and the 10th PRESIDENT’S CUP CHAMPION – College of Business and Accountancy!
