New UB MIDWIVES Heed Call for Licensed Birth Attendants

An article in the May 7, 2010 issue of the Manila Bulletin written by Jenny F. Manongdo emphasized there is a demand for approximately 350,000 midwives in the country and abroad. The call to fill-up the shortage was reiterated by former DOH secretary, Dr. Alberto G. Romualdez, when he mentioned there is a need to increase the number of skilled birth-attendants to improve maternal health practices in the country.

This is great news for the University of Batangas’ twenty (22) new registered midwives who passed the April 2010 licensure examination. The UB College of Nursing and Midwifery’s recent graduates merited a 74% passing rate as compared to the national passing average of 52.58%. This remarkable showing from the latest batch of UB Midwives brought to fore the college as top performer in the CALABARZON area.
